Its that time of year again, where you whip out your tax returns or your information from your income of the previous year and fill out endless forms. Such is the life of a college student – and here you probably thought I was talking about Income Tax time. No just as important but for other reasons. This is that time of year when you find out if you are going to be in dutch with loans that have terms reminiscent of those Loan Shark type folks that were known to hang around certain parts of Brooklyn(NY, that is).
The FASFA is a form that is a one stop fits all attempt to allow students to apply for whatever financial aid is available through the federal and local governments. The questions are typical, name soc sec etc. and of course you will need your income information from the previous year. A lot has changed since I first was aware of Federal Student Aid. You basically can fill out the form in its entirety online. Who knew? Ahh the wonders of modern technology.
Now if they could only figure out a way to adjust the system so that you would not have to be literally destitute to qualify for aid – and by all means stop cutting the funding. You want an educated society it costs money. I wonder what the GOP plan on doing with all the people that they would “throw away” as a result of being disenfranchised due to cuts in government programming and services that they currently rely on. Perhaps I need to go read up on debtor’s prison.
