On November 9th, 2010 what started the day after President Obama took office came into full effect. The sniping and counter-productive environment that arose during the fight for health care reform legislation was fully manifested when the Republican Party on the wings of the so-called “Tea Party Movement”, took control of the House of Representatives.
While president Obama has since taking office, tried to work in a bi-partisan way across party lines to engage the Republican Party in working towards solutions that benefit the entire country, they have steadfastly refused to work with him and come to agreement on any legislation that he has put forward. In anticipation of the November elections, the party put their support behind a movement that was born out of the average American’s dissatisfaction with the direction the country was going. Not in any effort to solve anything, but in an effort to garner support for themselves.
I feel that the republicans taking over the house is going to prove to be very problematic for the President and for this country in terms of getting any legislation that benefits the average working class American. They have already started working on maintaining the Bush era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.
They are and have been blocking any legislation that helps those in the “middle-class”. An example of this would be their blocking passage of an extension for unemployment benefits for all those who have lost their jobs in the economic crisis that many of those same wealthy people who get to KEEP their tax cuts help cause.
Working together is impossible with a Republican Party whose leaders have as a goal, getting rid of the current sitting president. Senator Mitch McConnell a Republican Senator from the state of Kentucky stated publicly that his goal was to get President Obama OUT of office. With a mindset like that governing the actions of the Republican Party it is going to be next to impossible to get anything productive done in the next two years and this is not even taking Snowbilly aka Sarah Palin and her influence as well as her followers into consideration. God have mercy on this country and the people who live here.
