Went to my first Rose Festival at Edisto Memorial Gardens this weekend. Big event in this area and almost everyone shows up at some point or another. My intention was to catch the first of the “tours” of the rose gardens but missed by 15 minutes. Wound up doing the self tour thing(see the pictures) . The event is somewhat reminiscent of what we up north would call a street fair minus the streets. Road fair maybe?
Food vendors, craft vendors, local merchants and radio stations. This one I could not pass up on taking a pic of since no one would believe it if I told them:
I didn’t get an opportunity to go to the indoor Arts Center to see the entries, but again maybe next time. It was a nice day out, although as far as pictures go, might have gotten more shots if I had come a week earlier. Many of the roses were already done and overblown but I got a few in. Nothing Pulitzer worthy…but nice just the same.
Crowd was mostly families out enjoying the Saturday – which most events I find here in Oburg tend to be family oriented. Which pretty much makes attendance at these things…for non family units, I will say Oddish…and leave it at that.
Orangeburg is very much a family oriented town, so if you aren’t married with kids, or a college student you kind of “stand out” so to speak, unless you feel like driving up to Columbia where singles tend to fare better ( Or so I hear)
