According to the official Barack Obama campaign website, since the polls closed on "Super Tuesday" over 7 million in donations have been sent in. Not from lobbyists, and not from Senator Obama's personal bank account....from the people....
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
One of the stark contrasts in the two campaigns highlights this fundamental tenet. One campaign seeks to do this very thing and be BY the people and for the people. The other reeks of being self serving and maintaining the status quo that has without question led this country to the edge of the precipice that it currently sits at. That they themselves do not even see this is just further proof at how polarized this nation has become BECAUSE of the type of politics that HRC engenders. it would be so very easy to make this particular race for the presidency of the United States only be limited to policy however it feels like the country has fallen so far back that mere "Policies" will not get us where we need to be. It will take leadership, courage and strength in addition to the ability to come up with solutions or "policies" that will address all the myriad issues currently facing this nation. It will take a LEADER with the wisdom of Solomon and the ability to motivate people to go outside their comfort zone and work together towards the common good. I cannot personally speak to the last time we even had a Presidency like that - I haven't seen one in my lifetime. At least - not yet...
